The ladies O35’s vets side had drawn Clifton at home for the semi final of the National Cup which was played on Sunday 3rd April.
A very vocal home crowd helped set the atmosphere for an exciting and tense match!!!
Canterbury started the game perfectly with a well worked move passing from defence to attack being finished expertly by Cora BJ. Great start after 3 minutes. We continued the quarter well, having most of the possession, however a penalty corner awarded to Clifton was converted leaving us 1-1 at the finish of the first quarter.
Continued solid work through the team during the second and third quarters saw some expert defending and smart saves from Trudy in goal to keep them out, and some fine attacking play from us – but the ball just wouldn’t fall kindly to put it away and put us ahead.
The final quarter saw the crowd get even louder, encouraging a mammoth effort from a tired team. Canterbury lifted the intensity, pushed hard, won a string of penalty corners but still couldn’t find a breakthrough.
BUT belief was there, attacking flair continued and a fine team move was finished with an open play goal from Chirpy to put us 2-1 up with 4 mins to go!
We saw it out! WINNERS!!!
And through to the final on 1st May.
Well done girls – you were simply amazing!
