Ladies 1st XI vs Cambridge City (Home) | 26 Mar 22

Won 2-1

Scorers: Dom Masters (FG), Lizzie Neal (PC)

Canterbury Ladies 1s arrived at a sunny Polo Farm on Saturday for their last home game of the season vs Cambridge City. The team made the most of the warm weather and spent some time watching the ‘Grims game together before a reflective team talk from Nicki and Mel. With Helen Richardson-Walsh almost having to don a Canterbury red shirt as her Cambridge one was stuck in a car on the motorway, Canterbury were feeling positive! A tight first half with tense, end to end hockey meant that Mazza needed a sit down by the start of the second quarter – apparently 4 sorries aren’t enough for a stick tackle! HT score of 0-0. During the third quarter Canterbury worked hard to continue the momentum with a real team effort shining through. Some fabulous joined up hockey 4 minutes into the final quarter led to an excellent first goal of the game for Dom, and Kerler was super happy she got a celebratory hug this week. 6 minutes later Lizzie finished a short corner routine with a slip into goal taking the score to 2-0 for Canterbury. Cambridge managed a last minute consolation goal with a final winning score of 2-1 for Canterbury. The ladies were in high spirits for a sunny team photo after the game and a surprise party in the clubhouse for Captain Barnsey’s 40th Birthday and Mel’s incredible anniversary of playing in Canterbury Ladies 1s for 30 years. A lovely evening had by all, thanks to Lizzie for the fab games and those who organised the surprise. The Ladies look forward to their delightful away trip to Harleston for the last game of the season and hopefully a squad social once the season is complete.
