On an grey and drizzly afternoon on the main pitch the ladies stepped out under the lights to take on Holcombe. Canterburys normal flowing game seemed to only be visible in brief passages of play.

Some good running from Ellie Upton down the right saw Canterbury create a number of chances in the first half which they were not able to convert.

Holcombe grew into the first half and worked the ball to the Canterbury area on a number of occasions ending with them winning a penalty corner. A bobbling ball was not dealt with at the top of the “D” by Canterbury and Holcombe rolled the ball in to the bottom corner. Some further good hockey from both side saw the first half ending 1-0.

The second half saw the majority of the game being played in the middle of the park with very few chances for either side. Holcombe showed more intent and fashioned a second goal with a neat reverse stick finish. This seemed to bring Canterbury to life with a number of chances then coming. The deficit was halved after a lifted ball into the “D” was brought down by Hannah whose shot squeezed through the keepers legs for Vicki to finish off. A misplace pass from Ellie saw Holcombe in with a chance to seal the win with 5 mins to go, a good initial save from Kendra and some great work from Annabelle ensured there was no third goal for Holcombe. With the game petering out Canterbury were awarded a penalty corner as the final whistle went. Some good defending from Holcombe saw the the game out. Canterbury Ladies 4s 1-2 Holcombe Ladies 4s
