Scorers: Mary Flint
A short and sweet report for a disappointing performance against Reading this week. In awful conditions Reading were first on the score sheet following a short corner rebound goal over the logged keeper. Canterbury put pressure on at the other end creating a short corner opportunity. This was despatched after a 1-2 at the top and save from Mel’s shot by Mary Flint with a backhand sweep. Canterbury were not able to sustain the pressure and Reading got another corner which left them leading 2-1 going into quater time.
In the second quater the weather put the game on hold with concerns of the video tower falling onto the pitch. It was decided to continue playing and with chances at both ends being snubbed out it was 2-1 going into half time.
Canterbury were urged to up their intensity going into the second half but a dubious umpiring decision from a missed jab tackle by Mel Clewlow led to a penalty stroke which was despatched well by Reading. This knocked the stuffing out of Canterbury and we were unable to get any sustained pressure up front and ended up conceding a further 2 goals leaving a disappointing end to the game.
After playing the top 3 teams we are hoping to raise our performance next week against Wimbledon Ladies 2nd XI who lie below us in the table. Onwards and upwards we go again.
