Men’s 2nd XI vs T.Wells 1st XI (Away) | 12 Feb 22

Lost 4-1

Scorers: A.Laslett

MoM: Kenners

DoD: Lloydie

In the return fixture against T.Wells, we knew we had to put a big performance in to bag 3-points. Even more so with a team marked by injury, and it being an away fixture- some players cannot make those. Nevertheless, buoyed by our gritty victory over Blackheath last week we were hoping that tenacity would still be evident.

We started well, as did T.Wells with some calm and assured play starting from the defensive line’s. Patience was displayed by both teams with little separating them for most of the first half, other than 1 goal to them. A reassuring half time team talk with some delicious, but under-appreciated, premium sweets ensured we were up for the second half.

T.Wells scored first to go 2-0 up but we didn’t lose spirits and quickly scored a bit of scrappy goal to commence the come back……

Again with some good play on display from both teams the major separation was one official’s inability to understand how short corners are or are not awarded. Two very dubious corners were awarded to T.Wells which lead to 2 well taken goals making our comeback very tricky. We fought hard and created opportunities but unfortunately we had nothing clinical inside the D for most of the second half.

The final score was 4-1, which in honesty did not reflect the game or give credit to the hard work that we displayed, but does highlight how important taking our opportunities are.

-MOM was given to Kenners for some good quality ticky-tak in the middle of the pitch.
-DOD was awarded to myself, Lloydie, for displaying keeness, verbal passion and a lack of “aerialing” ability out of our defensive lines without divulging the blame to someone else.
