Men’s 2nd XI vs Sevenoaks (Away) | 29 Jan 22

Lost 3-2

Scorers: Alex Laslett Josh Pebble

MoM: Luke Kennedy

DoD: Jamie Miller-Hastings

From what looked like a good start to the day I thought I had my DoD vote sorted when LucaSlade missed the Sevenoaks turning because he was trying to work out which Laslett was which and how they were related to Alex.

We arrived at the venue and as I was walking towards Andrew Dunn he kindly asked if I was on shirt duty. As this was being said my face dropped realising they had been left in sunny Folkestone. Lumley and I left to go try and buy some shirts when Dunny phoned and said he had managed to secure some woman’s shirts from Sevenoaks which we all looked stunning in especially myself Laz, figgy and butch.

The game started well with some nice hockey and an early chance for Paddy. Sevenoaks won themselves a short corner which was converted. Towards the end of the half Laz put away a short corner straight through the keepers legs to bring it back to 1-1. Just before the half was up we conceeded another short corner and they managed to stick it away.

The half time team talk was constructed of Dunny giving us some emotional but inspirational words. Coach Lummers started off by noting he wouldn’t be as emotional in his words, but it didn’t end that way.

Shortly into the second half we conceded another short corner which the defence couldn’t keep out. The second half consisted of a much better work rate from the whole team, we just couldn’t seem to get any shots on target until a short corner was won. With Laz on the side line we had to come up with a plan to try to convert this to get us back in the game and Pebble managed to slot it away. The last ten we really pushed to try and get back to a draw but unfortunately this wasn’t possible.

All in all a disappointing trip to Sevenoaks. I just hope we never have to wear size 6 woman’s shirts again.
