Ladies o35 vs Maidstone Over 35’s (Home) | 05 Dec 21

Won 6-1

Scorers: Cara Lucy Moira Lara

MoM: Mrs L Barnes

DoD: Mrs N Triggs

Canterbury ladies O35’s took on Maidstone ladies in the second round of the HA cup with a home fixture.

The game started with some very fluid passing from defence, through the midfield and onto the forward line, putting Maidstone very quickly on the back foot.

It wasn’t long before Lara found the net with a mighty fine shot, and closely followed by a reverse stick sweep shot by Moira. Canterbury then missed several good chances, striking the crossbar and a shot which would have been a great conversion in rugby.

Maidstone worked hard and got back into the game with a well worked team goal. This ruffled Canterbury‘s feathers and they stepped up the pressure once again, with some (attempted) solid tackles.

Two further goals before half-time, one from Lucy and one from Jackie Laird.

The second half saw some majestic play from the experienced old birds, (well Moira thought she saw a majestic bird in a tree so went to investigate).

Breaking through the midfield Nikki passed the ball to Lucy at the top of the D, smacking it home into the bottom left corner.

The final goal coming from defence breaking down the right with a good crack into the D from Mel, finding the end of Cara’s stick to touch it delightfully past the goalkeeper.

The game ended 6-1.
Player of the match going to Lucy Barnes.
Onwards and upwards into the next round in the New Year.
