“The wise adapt themselves to circumstances, as water moulds itself to a pitcher”
-Chinese Proverb

Canterbury 2s knew this was a crucial weekend of hockey for their season with many questions to answer, so we looked to the East for inspiration as we headed west to face Old Willies.

Q: Would we be able to cope with the loss of our talismanic lynchpin Farrer late on Friday? How would we replace his engine? His luxurious leather interiors and 5 seats? His Canterbury departure point?
A: With difficulty. Even the best-laid plans are susceptible to change and, as I’m sure our new coach would agree, when you’re not directly involved in the game, you can only set the team up for success and hope intelligence will prevail as challenges arise.

Q: On the pitch, could we replace Farrer’s penalty corner threat?
A: Yes. We managed to adapt admirably and the team stepped up to emulate what they had seen him produce in recent weeks.

Q: Would Sladey’s change of hair management approach affect his goalscoring and card-receiving form?
A: Yes.

I suppose 2 out of 3 isn’t so bad…
