Ladies 3rd XI vs Folkestone 1’s (Away) | 27 Nov 21

Lost 4-2

A strong Canterbury squad arrived at top of the league Folkestone ready to fight for some points.

We held our nerve in the opening minutes with Irmak, Cara and Moi looking strong in possession, but it was soon apparent that our positioning needed some work as Folkestone attacked quickly. Unfortunately, Folkestone took advantage of their attacking possession and scored 2 goals in open play and one from a short corner. However we did not let our heads drop and continued to find our way forward with good midfield play by Evie and Iona, eventually resulting in a shot from Nat that was calmly deflected in by Ellie. Folkestone, however, found the back of our goal again to make it 4-1 at the end of the first half.

After a positive team talk at half time we set out to improve our work rate and found ourselves dominating the second half. Our defence held firm with MOM Bex having an outstanding game, and DOD Rachel resorting to some diving tackles. This strength in defence allowed our forwards the freedom to stretch the game, resulting in more chances and penalty corners. Our second goal came from a very slick corner injected by Cara to Evie who hit the ball across the D for a deflection by Nat.
The whole team fought to the end with Folkestone’s final attempts batted away by some excellent saves by GK Trudy.
