Ladies 2nd XI vs Hampstead and Westminster (Away) | 20 Nov 21

Lost 0-4

DoD: Captain Fantastic Amy

The ladies twos travelled away to Hampstead and Westminster for the last game of 2021.

Our train journey to London was rather exciting with lots of team bonding, although Captain fantastic had a bit of disappointment when her perfect homemade lunchbox with wraps, crisps, fruit and chocolate turned out to be last nights bolognese.

After a great warm up and thorough team talk we were ready to go. The first quarter started off strong and we as the underdogs really gave Hampstead and Westminster a run for their money. Canterbury were the dominating team attacking the opposition with great teamwork, skill and aggression. However, with a few questionable decisions a Canterbury player was benched for 2minutes. Despite our effort to withhold the attack, Hampstead and Westminster overloaded the right hand side and hit the far post and scored.

Second quarter brought much more excitement as both teams were hungry for a goal. With opportunities at both ends it was unfortunately Hampstead and Westminster who came out on top with a deflection from a short corner on the half-time whistle.

The second half was pretty evenly matched but it was Hampstead who were more clinical in the circle scoring two more goals to make the final score 4-0. Canterbury girls kept battling to the very end and pulled out a top team performance. A special mention to Alice Wetters who had a blinder in the centre mid and our lovely goalkeeper Bex who was awesome and saved a couple of absolute rocket shots!

Overall a great competitive game and what’s more we didn’t lose anyone on the tube thanks to Andi’s navigation skills. A long long day but a very good one, and we look forward to what the next half of the season will bring for us!

Squad: Bex, Molly, Amy, Hannah, Andi, Alice, Sofia, Abbie, Lottie, Vicky, Tilly, Lily and Chirpy as team manager!
