Wheels fall off Friars
A top of the table clash with both teams on maximum points should have meant a better game than it turned out ot be. That old cliche of “A Game of 2 Halves” was a literal truism against a strong visiting K Sports team who scored after 3 minutes from a shot that shaved the post. Friars dug deep and youngster Adam McHale playing really well set up The Friars only goal which John Aikin neatly put away 10 minutes from the break. However playing with 10 players K Sports did what they needed in the first half. The usual half-time Jaffa Cakes just did not work unlike the previous week and with K Sports now up to 11 the wheel fell off the Friars response or in some cases ground to a halt. 3 goals came at regular intervals and with one Friars miss it was not to be their day. Some ill discipline, a yellow card and great gaps in mid field did not help the Friars cause as they succumbed 4-1 to a team who well deserved their victory. Two silver linings – the first was that Friars promotion chances have been dented as they just don’t ‘do promotion’ (or relegation too; merely quite happy to chug along mid table in the same league that they have always played for 10 years!! And the second was young Adam McHale got Man of The Match for his constant running, effort and skill and on his debut. No DoD as there were quite a few borderline candidates! Note for next week : “All must do better” On a totally different
