Ladies 5th XI vs Old Williamsonian’s 2 (Home) | 02 Oct 21

Won 3-2

Scorers: Jess Mccully x1 Mel Lea x2

MoM: Mel Lea, Jess Mccully and Chelsea Leniham

Not even the driving rain could dampen our sprits as we headed onto AW3 for our first home game of the league against Old Williamsonian’s 2’s. We were soaked through before the first ball was pushed back but we were on a mission to win after our pre-game team talk from Foxy.

Ball speed was up and we stuck to our formations to get a few run ups into the D which resulted in us getting a short corner that saw Jess get a great shot into the corner of the goal. It wasn’t long before they managed to score from a short corner themselves before half time.

Powered by half time Jelly Babies we set out determined to get the score back in our favour. They managed to get a strike at goal making it 2-1 before we came back fighting.

A short corner was converted to a penalty flick after one of their team stopped the ball with their foot (an ex-goalie perhaps) and Mel absolutely nailed it into the net to see us back even at 2-2. We stayed strong in our formations while they struggled to keep up with us and it wasn’t long before another short corner strike from Mel saw us up 3-2. The final whistle blew and we were all relieved to get into a hot shower and some dry clothes, but despite the rain we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Our MoM’s were:
– Jess for some excellent skills and driving with the ball – and of course that goal.

  • Mel for her great shots and for knowing exactly what to say to us on the pitch to keep us on the job.

  • Chelsea for some amazing saves during her first match with us.

We are away at Herne Bay next week and really looking forward to it.
