Ladies 2nd XI vs Horsham (Home) | 02 Oct 21

Won 1-0

Scorers: Flora Brett

MoM: Becca Smith

DoD: Kirsty Greaves

The 2s welcomed Horsham Ladies to the Polo farm fortress this weekend for the second league fixture. Sadly BBC weather got the predictions spot on and we were treated to 40mph winds and rain as heavy as a Boxing Day hangover.

The 15-strong home side started off in tenacious fashion, with some brilliant build up player through Lauren martin who dominated the centre of the field. The first half saw plenty of equal opportunities for both teams with some unbelievable saves from Becca Smith keeping the home side on a level playing field as we hit half time. 0-0

After an inspiring ‘no nonsense’ team talk from our very own Blobby, Canterbury turned up the aggression in the third quarter. Naturally, our passion shone through, which the umpire sadly felt deserved a few green cards. Nonetheless, the home side continued to battle on through the monsoon-like weather, with a breakthrough in the forward line allowing Flora Brett to slot in a goal from a pretty hardcore angle.

The final quarter was a matter of trying to regain some feeling in our hands whilst holding off some threatening attacks from Horsham. A lot of hard work and determination resulted in Canterbury holding onto the 1-0 victory. Which was good news for Kirsty, who somehow thought we had drawn the game..

A truly gritty performance from the squad as we head into the third week with another home fixture.
