Men’s 4th XI vs Holcombe 3s (Away) | 18 Sep 21

Won 4-3

Scorers: C Podd x2, Cal Brown-Lea, Shane Godwin

Canterbury 3s continued their fine pre-season form with a gritty win against a well drilled Holcombe 3rd 11.

From the off, Hugh Thompson and Callum Conlon bombarded the Holcombe defence with D to D aerials, one such ball catching the beleaguered centre backs out for Podd to run onto. Rather than taking a touch, Podd lashed it first time from the edge of the D leaving the keeper no chance.

Seth Tyler and Ed Matthews were both assured in defence, ably supported by the engine room of Alan Carter, Chris Ellis and Shane Godwin, with Shano getting on the scoresheet courtesy of a well-taken overhead smash.

Ali Scott-Kilvert and Josh Kitson both showcased an array of stick skills and searing pace. Whilst deadline day signing Cal Brown-Lea stole the show combining unparalleled stick skills with vision and finesse. Getting on the scoresheet with a fine reverse stick strike- nutmegging the keeper.

Some intricate play led to Ali assisting Podd for another and the game was in the bag.

League starts next week- Maidstone 2s at home.
