Canterbury Hockey club is based on the outskirts of the cathedral city of Canterbury and has a history going back to 1901. It is one of the largest clubs in the country and boasts impressive facilities at its multi sports complex home, Polo Farm Sports Club. Hockey is able to benefit from two water based and one sand based outdoor pitches as well as two indoor courts for the winter months.
The club fields ten Men’s teams, five Ladies teams and four Masters teams as well as a thriving junior section and fantastic links to local schools in the area. We pride ourselves on being a family orientated friendly club and would welcome candidates from all backgrounds.
Check out our website and social media channels for more information about the club.
Canterbury Ladies Hockey Club are looking for an enthusiastic coach to lead the Ladies 2nd XI Team and work closely with the 1st coaches for the 2021/22 domestic season. We play in the National Conference Division East and regularly play against well organised and focussed 1st XI sides. It is a balanced side of experienced players who help support and nurture the abundance of junior talent within the club, some of whom continue on their playing path to the Ladies 1st XI. Our season’s goal is to maintain our position within this league, continue developing our players but most importantly to have fun and enjoy what we do!
The 19/20 season was the ladies first venture into this league, having gained promotion the previous year. We learnt a great deal that first year, finishing mid-table. The second season proved to be tough and prior to the suspension of hockey before Christmas, the team found itself at the wrong end of the table, arguably they still had teams to play in and around them before Christmas. We created plenty of goal scoring opportunities and games were certainly entertaining. We are now preparing for next season, fully aware of the quality of the sides we will be playing against and the type of hockey they will be looking to play. We are looking for someone to help us consolidate our position and play positive, entertaining hockey.
The Ladies 1st and 2nd team train together at Polo Farm Sports club, usually Tuesdays 7:30pm – 9:30pm (TBC for the 21/22 season) and the successful candidate would be expected to attend training sessions and all home and away fixtures which historically fall on Saturdays with the occasional Sunday fixture. There may be opportunities for the successful person to play matches within the club (Saturday for men’s 2s and below or Sunday for the men’s 1st XI) but the priority must be coaching the ladies 2nd XI.
Preseason fitness starts on the 1st July with hockey specific sessions the first week in August, pending positive progress with the Government’s road map and England Hockey guidance and rules.
We would also be open to discuss as an additional extra a coaching role within the junior club with the ladies U16 team. We currently have this set up with our ladies U18 team and it has worked really well for the few games played during the 20/21 season and would like to replicate this with a dual 2nd team / U16 role as it helps to provide vital feedback to the 1st and 2nd team coaches around performance as well as monitoring fatigue and overloading.
Any interested parties should email a covering letter stating coaching qualifications, coaching experience and reasons for applying for the role to firstname.lastname@example.org
Expected start date: 01/08/2021
Salary: Negotiable and dependant on experience
Application closing date: Friday June 25th
