More cards than Christmas
Saturday 17th october Canterbury Men’s 2s travelled on a long journey away to Lewes. Heading away to a first team whilst having a bare 12 players we knew from the off it was going to be a tough game. After a slow start we gave Lewes a present in the form of an open man at the back post for an easy tip in. Thankfully Canterbury managed to work their way into the game and they showed this with two goals. First one being a P-flick which michael farrer calmly placed into the bottom corner after Alex Lazlett won it whilst having one shoe on at the time. The second being a tip in from captain Andrew Dunn putting Canterbury in a good position to push on and win the game. Unfortunately after this good spell from canterbury we let ourselves down getting caught out with Lewes attacking at pace in numbers leading us to go into the break 4-2 down. After an uplifting team talk the lads believed the game was still open to grab a win. With this in mind we started off very well and dominated against a 9 man Lewes however we only converted one goal from a nice finish on the reverse from Luke Kennedy at a tight angle from a drag flick rebound. Canterbury kept pushing to get another however as soon as Lewes came back to eleven men, Canterbury started losing discipline leading in playing with ten or nine men for most the half. With some clinical finishing from Lewes mixed with some poor defending led to Lewes pulling away scoring two goals in the second half. A disappointing result for the 2’s wit the game finishing 6-3, a tough loss to take but we stay positive and look forward to next week when we travel away to London Academical’s looking for all three points. Overall a hard fought match with Youngster Dan Gent standing out earning him man of the match with his quality, composed and wise game.
