MoM: Mike Barton
Off to Maidstone for first league match of the season. Normally it is their 6th team but we found ourselves facing their 4s after their dropping a team this season and within a minute we had conceded a p-flick and were 1 down.
A good fight back came and 2 shots on goal but another conceded left the score at 2-0 down at half-time.
However the second half saw Maidstone shift up to top gear and for much of the time it was one way traffic with Friars keeper Paul Donovan much in the action making some excellent saves aided by centre back Mike Barton and deserved Man of the Match winner. 3 more goals came Maidstone’s way at regular intervals including 2 from a very young Maidstone player by the name of ‘Arry who showed enormous promise. There were some good games from Canterbury’s youngsters especially Arthur Fassum, Charlie Gotke and Thomas Tan. A promising debut from ex Cliftonville player Tom Parkin also.
Played in very good spirit the match did have a feeling of a Generation Game with predictable results on a hockey pitch and off pitch trying to teach Pete Bowell the intracies of a smartphone and Teamo! Onwards and upwards…….
