MoM: Paino (tremendous game on goal which wasn’t reflected by the score)
DoD: Glenn (hitting post twice, basically jug avoidance)
The 4s hosted Cliftonville on what was a debut on the brand spanking new pitch at AW2. Despite going up within the first 2-3 minutes due to what was technically a back to injector ‘routine’, Canterbury found themselves under the kosh to a clearly well drilled and well organised Cliftonville team. Going into the break at 1-1 to another scrappy short (going to the visitors this time), there was an acknowledgment by the team that, while we hadn’t turned up to the races yet, there was still a half to go and we had the squad to fight back into the game. Unfortunately, although the fight was there till the last 5 minutes, the performance remained disjointed and Cliftonville continued to dominate. It must be stated however that had a couple of segments of play gone our way (Glenn hitting the post incredibly unfortunately TWICE), an unlikely outcome may have been attained. There were definitely still some positives however, and although a loss was probably the right result, 5 goals did not justify the brilliant performance in goal by Paino, or the work done in the middle of the park by Forba, Hugh Thompson, and Lewis Bridger. A sore result but optimism to take through the season.
