A blustery start away to Gore Court 2s, it didn’t take long for the home side to exploit the gaps left by the most elderly member of the 4s defensive back line and take a 4-0 lead after no more than 20 minutes. One each from Hursty and Glenn got us back to 4-2 by the break, and we knew a come back could on the cards, as long as we got the next goal. That didn’t happen, and a Gore Court short quickly added a fifth….
Despite some swift replies from our own front line, the home side continued to maintain at least a two goal buffer, with an increasingly predictable short corner routine, and it was 7-4 with 10 minutes to go.
A lovely goal line clearance from Stuart Forber, and a flurry of Canterbury goals from Glenn, Hursty, and Ali, ably assisted by Josh, and we were all square, with just two tense minutes left to play. With the wind behind us, and a hatrick already in hand, Glenn slotted home an 8th to take the lead with seconds left on the clock.
But the home side weren’t finished yet and secured one last short corner just before the final whistle. Surely, after so many similar goals, Gore Court had the routine to also make it 8? Another fantastic clearance, and the fifteen goal thriller gave Canterbury a very well deserved 3 points!
The first league game of the season, and quite possibly THE game of the season, regardless if Boris decides to call another lockdown – Well played everyone!
