Canterbury 3s secured a hard-earned point against a defensive Lewes side to start the season with honours even at Polo Farm.

The freshly laid AW2 pitch tested both teams first touch throughout with numerous awkward bounces leading to quite a disjointed game. In the first half both teams struggled to put together a series of passes, and Canterbury were perhaps the more fortuitous of the two to go in level at 1-1. A well saved short-corner which Morts was the quickest to react to, rifling home.

Conditions worsened in the second half as the wind picked up and the heavens opened. This led to Alan mis-timing a swept clearance which skewed off the end of his stick and spun at right-angles past the despairing dive of Andy Howard- who was clean bowled. Lewes’ striker could barely believe his luck as it fell kindly for a tap-in.

The final 25 minutes was a sea of green and white hammering on the door, as Lewes changed their style of play to “park the bus”. The D was highly congested and the 3s were limited to half-chances. Finally with time running out, the ball was well worked across to Nathan on the edge of the D, who smoked one across goal for Poddy to nip in at the far post.

A draw probably a fair result, on to next week- BBHC Away.
