Scorers: Ethan Aitken (2), Sam Ericson (1)
MoM: Hugo Corteen-Coleman
Canterbury started with only 10 but kept hold of the ball well and pressed early for an opening goal. Sam came closest when he hit the post off of a mazy dribble. Not long after, Ethan made no mistake when he slotted home after a neat attacking move. Henry could have doubled the score but this time the other post got in the way. So at half time and it was 1-0 and 2 posts to Canterbury. The second half was much the same as the first (with the exception of the posts). Our defence was strong and confidently passed the ball around, the midfield created lots of space for themselves with some great passing moves and the forwards kept running and probing the danger zone. It was early on in the second half when the shot from a good attacking move was saved and the ball rebounded straight into the path of Sam who calmly struck the ball passed the keeper. 2-0. The third goal was our best. It started with some patient build up play, carefully pulling the Holcombe defence in different directions, then a great pass from the defence found Sam who turned his man and passed straight to Ethan, who had made a great run across the D. Ethan’s delicate one touch guided the ball into the corner of the goal. 3-0. Canterbury then relaxed a little bit and ended up letting in a couple of goals. The score line didn’t really reflect the run of the game. Canterbury were in control for the vast majority of the game and could have scored a few more. All in all, a great run around for the Griffins and some really good performances. My pick of the team was Hugo who impressed by running all game, calmly and confidently keeping the ball, making some great passes and reading the game well.
