Squires vs Old Williamsonians 4’s (Home) | 07 Mar 20

Lost 0 – 4

Having started the week with a squad of 14 players the 11 that took to the pitch on match day fought valiantly and against a well structured and youthful side from Old Willi’s.
The defence of James, John, Graham and David fought hard and protected David in goal as much as possible. On two occasions our ball was turned over near the half way line and their superior speed and clinical execution resulted in two goals on the break. It was not all one way traffic with Jimmy and James doing all possible to create space and opportunities for those upfront. We did win a handful of short corners but despite varying the options and working round their defence our efforts were summed up by Jimmy striking the post with the ball then spinning across the goal line but not over it. Try as hard as we could but it just wasn’t our day.
Merv did what he always does and covered miles in chasing the ball and harrying the opposition when in possession; Robin had an excellent game playing just behind the front two and with time and development shows huge promise. Jo had a difficult game up front struggling with a sore calf and not really able to latch on to much of the build up play.
One more league game to go for this season which will leave us in 7th place or with a fair wind and the right results up to 6th…..would be nice to pick up a place….particularly as the last game is away to Holcombe!!
