The Griffins were looking to bounce back after last weeks disappointing defeat. The opposition this week was bottom of the table Burnt Ash 5s so hopes were high with a full squad of 15, including that rare sighting of the skipper.
The Griffins were soon in control but for some reason couldn’t find that final touch in front of goal as chances went begging with a number of balls passing across the front goal just asking for a final touch but somehow evading everyone. Finally the breakthrough came when from a melee in the D Guy fired in a shot that gave the keeper little chance. This settled the Griffins somewhat and they began to play some nice hockey with both Hugo, on the left, and in particular Jonathan on the right having the beating of their markers and causing problems but the score remained 1-0 at half time.
The second half was much the same with the Griffins dominating, Eddie in goal only being called upon three times in the match to make saves. More urgency and pace to the play led to an excellent team goal with great interplay down the right and Andy in the D to finish it off for 2-0. The third came from a short corner for Ashley, firing in from the second attempt.
Three points and three goals but could have been more. Now for a series of tough games against the top three sides and a side just below us in the league. Ashford next week away.
