Scorers: Pete Bowell (2), Nick Scott-Kilvert
MoM: Nick Scott-Kilvert
DoD: Not awarded
An auspicious day for the skipper Tony Jones – 77 and a big match against Holcombe. But it was the visitors who were more switched on as an early goal from them buoyed them up and kicked us up the rear.
The Friars then woke up and began to play some improved hockey; helped by the return of Nick Scott-Kilvert from injury which was both welcome for him, us and the scoresheet and later being awarded the MoM as he picked up a nice ball at an early short corner to slot home very clinically to equalise.
Not long before half-time a p-flick was awarded for a deliberate foul on Pete Bowell who stood up and scored.
The second half was an equal affair with Holcombe keen to gain an equalising point but some fine defensive work from Jude Mardon in goal kept out all incursions.
Two minutes from time Pete Bowell playing in his correct position rather than his self-imposed roving role scored a fine goal (see pic of Pete and The Birthday Boy) to emphasise the win and keep us in a healthy but not worryingly promotion position.
Rumour has it that we have Big Geoff back this Saturday, fresh from catching up cutting his strong growing cauliflowers
