2nd XI vs Old Bordenians 1st XI (Away) | 08 Feb 20

Won 1-0

Scorers: P. Brookson

MoM: N Redman & A Dunn

DoD: N. Buckingham & C. Lloyd Hughes

The 2s were up against it this weekend with 11 men away from home against an energetic 16 man Old Bordenians. The 2s track record away from home this season has been poor, we wanted to ensure this wasn’t the case again. With a win it would also ensure momentum on our return to support the 1s against Sevenoaks and the potential of a boozy club social.

With game management the key to ensuring success we started in a calm and composed manner and went up 1-0 in the first 15 minutes with a nice reverse stick shot from P. Brookson. Old Bords rallied quickly and thought they had scored however it was disallowed for back stick. The game ebbed and flowed with some fantastic goalkeeping from Nathan keeping Canterbury in the lead. Half time arrived 1-0 still in the lead.

With some strong positive encouragement from Mr Dunn to keep the momentum and our heads we went into the second half. There were 3 particular highlights of the second half:
1. Dunny out gassing their centre forward up the right wing with stick in 1 hand- I think he told at least 30 people about this at the club social before even mentioning the result.
2. Lloydie picking a tackle at the top of our D then “flip flapping” it past the oppo to dribble out- but then being nominated DOD for it by 3 weak stomached and faithed team mates .
3. The team galvanising to maintain a 1-0 lead despite all the relentless pressure and taking the big W back to polo.

The excitement continued watching the 1s/2s under the lights beat Sevenoaks before a fantastic club social. A great day for the 2s but more importantly a great day for the club.
