Won 3 – 2
Scorers: Jimmy Laslett x 2 – Max Navarro
As the league returned for the Squires we were up against local rivals and those that beat us 5 – 0 at the beginning of the season. With a couple of good friendlies to kick off the new calendar year we felt confident and in better shape than back in October. With the youngsters settling in well the balance of old bones and young legs starts to make sense and the Squires have a belief the second half of the season could be one more so to remember.
So against tough opposition and a club who don’t like to to lose to and at Canterbury to be up 2 – 0 at half time made the team feel confident we had set up well and could pinch all 3 points from second placed in the league.
Going 3 – 0 after half time (Jimmy bagging his two and Max pinching another) the Squires were hopeful the dominance and strong defence would see this one out. Herne Bay however had other thoughts and scored with 10 minutes to go – as the pressure grew another slip let them back in with another but with a true sense of belief and hope for the remainder of the season we saw this one out.
