Scorers: John Aikin, Guy Dowling
MoM: Dr Nick Tan
DoD: not awarded as last game before Christmas
Just a brief report here …
An excellent good humoured game that finished in a fair 2-2 draw.
With Johnny Maylam requesting a game to keep his fitness regime up to date – you see dear readers this is where the Friars now are in their hockey journey – we have Internationals (which Mayhem of course is) requesting run outs with the Friars on fitness grounds. Such a change from times long ago when we were just one step from that waiting room we all have to go into at some stage in our lives – still I digress.
Burnt Ash fielding a younger team (not difficult) than the Friars took the lead. (Dr) Nick Tan was on fire throughout the whole game and deservedly won the Man of the Match award – whatever he had had for breakfast worked.. In the photo you can see him expertly taking the ball off an opposition player.
A nice pass from Nick Tan to John Aikin brought an equalising goal but Burnt Ash came back to lead. However it was Guy Dowling (brother of the great Phil-sadly crooked) who scored the equaliser from a short corner. Excellent games from John Ratcliffe and Guy himself and good to see Nick S-Kilvert back only for the poor fellow to pull something else in his body – a Christmas rest is required for him.
Thanks to Hazel (Jonesy’s better half) and Sue Hurlow for providing the post match refreshments
