3rd XI vs Holcombe (Away) | 07 Dec 19

Won 6-0

Scorers: Matt Lea x6

MoM: Max Messenger

Canterbury 3s travelled to Holcombe hoping to sign off the 1st half of the season positively and confirm their title credentials.
As it turned out, a bare 11 travelled as “illness” had suddenly stuck our 12th man 45mins before the meet time believed be quite a severe case of fridaynightitus which was now repeating on him!
Holcs had a familiar look to them and their players didn’t really reflect their league position.
Canterbury got in to their stride fairly quickly and showed their attacking intent. Matt Lea converted 2 PC’s in fairly quick succession and was then on had to volley home a superb team goal after some great interplay down the left culminating in Ed Matthews driving the base line and playing the ball across to the waiting forward to complete a 10min hatrick. A 4th was then added courtesy of the flick spot after Poddy was upended by the on rushing GK while being fouled from behind by the nearly recovering defender. At half time we spoke about being a bit more calm and keeping the ball and we did. Holcs had no answer for the midfield and forwards and Andy Howard in goal had only 2 touches. In reality Canterbury could of had a cricket score but Poddy’s shooting boots had deserted him while Chris Figgis confused by a return pass in the D from Matt Lea could double his tally for the season. Matt Lea did add 2 more, 1 from another PC and then again from the flick spot after his original PC had been blocked by the post man’s shins.
The 6-0 win means we sign off for the Christmas break with 10 wins and 1 draw from 11 games, 9pts clear at the top of the table having scored 62 goals and only conceding 24 and looking forward to resuming where we have left of in January!
