Drew 1 – 1
Scorers: Edward Lampard
Another encounter with our local rivals saw a close scoreline but a result that really should have brought all 3 points.
The first half saw the Squires maintain most of the possession and control the game but not quite manage the final pass to convert the many chances that were created. With both posts preventing us take the lead we were content to go to half time at nil all but Holcombe had other thoughts! On pretty much their first encounter into our half a scruffy goal left us disappointed with our efforts.
The defense of James, Graeme, John and David did much to maintain our position and we took to the pitch after half time with a real belief we could turn this one around. The Holcs keeper continued to make great saves and shots from Max, Edward and Jimmy just would not go in. Several short corners were won but in hindsight it was clear we should have changed the routine to a be more creative as they blocked every option out.
As Holcombe settled into the game and it became a more even contest a break away after James Curtis had won the ball in midfield saw Max and Edward combine in the D with Edward slapping the ball through the keepers legs.
Despite many further attacks the final shot never brought the winning goal and we had to accept a draw and a point. The shape of the team now looks settled and with that a greater belief we will compete in the second half of the season after the Christmas break.
