Scorers: Jonathan Adams

Uncle Fester and Captain O’C couldn’t make it despite initial promises to the contrary but given our reach vein of form and the talent at our disposal in the squad that was a minor setback!
On reflection I’d say that Ashford were the best side we’ve faced this season and we came away with a very creditable 1-1 draw. We took the lead on about 10 minutes with some decent interplay down our right which forced their keeper into a save but the ball fell to Jonathan who calmly hit home on the angle from 9 metres out – nice sharp finish. Ashford caused us problems throughout the afternoon with some very slick play moving the ball nicely around and creating chances for themselves. It was through a mixture of hard work and good defending that we managed to keep them out plus a couple of indifferent finishes from them. 1-0 to us at half time.
The second half followed the same sort of pattern with the experienced Ashford side having more of the ball than us and playing some nice stuff although we threatened with some decent breaks of our own. Ashford did get the equaliser about mid-half when the ball fell nicely to a red shirt after a decent save from Eddie. At this point you’d have placed money on an Ashford win but despite several short corners and incursions into our 23 we repelled them. Special mention to the defence and to Eddie for some cracking saves. We also created a few chances ourselves and could easily have sneaked it. Overall though I’d say this was a point won rather than two lost and so it goes on we are the divisions draw specialists with five so far.
