Scorers: Ethan Aitken
MoM: The Grifflets
The wet and windy Saturday saw the Griffins travel to Blackheath, luckily the weather was slightly better there than at home in Canterbury. The first half was relatively even in terms of play and possession, with the play going from end to end. Following some great play we won a couple of short corners but were unable to convert and sadly it was Blackheath that ended up breaking the deadlock and then adding another slightly later. 2 – 0 at half time. The second half saw the game open up more which played into our hands (well “younger” legs). This allowed us to move the ball around more and exploit the gaps. There were periods of excellent play where we were able to move the ball around the pitch quickly. We challenged hard all over the pitch and this resulted in us scoring a well-deserved goal, with Ethan applying the finishing touches to a great attack. We kept pushing and won a few more short corners but again we couldn’t quite find the back on the net. Forget the result, this was about the performance and every one of the team stood up and gave 100%. Special mention to all the Grifflets, Eddy for a great game especially the series of saves from their 6 short corners in a row, Charlie for his attacking skills out of defense, Harry for his great defensive work and shuttles, Josh and Jonathan for their tireless running up and down the wings, Sam and Ethan for their non stop running and pocket picking up front and of course your goal Ethan. Very proud of the team and gutted not to come away with at least a draw.
