Friars vs K Sports Cobdown 3s (Home) | 19 Oct 19

Won 4-2

Scorers: John Aikin (2), Phil Dowling, Josh Kitson

MoM: Tony Jones

DoD: Neil Birch

Well an interesting match with the media, 15 Friars, quite a few supporters and Lord Lucan all present and against respected opposition who totally outclassed us last year.

However maximum effort and some good play was the result though by half time we were 1-0 down from a bullet of a short corner.

Phil Dowling despite getting what he described as “a broken rib” as an opposition defender’s braked totally failed defending a short corner (which had mended by full time) then in true Super Man spirit equalised from another short which he rather limply dribbled over the line.
Immediately K Sports regained the lead. Friars were then awarded a P Flick from an umpire’s eagle eyes which was put away by John Aikin to equalise 2-2 and that was how it looked the final score to be.
However young Josh Kitson had other ideas as he embarked on a dazzling solo run from our own half line into the D to shoot …well saved by their GK for him to somehow get the return and LBZ into the back of the net. Extraordinary ! So 10 minutes from the end the Friars found themselves in the lead and yet the riches were still flowing……..

2 minutes from time some excellent passing involving most of the midfield and forwards resulted in a tap in from John Aiki…..4-2, 3 points and a heady 3rd in the League.

Green card for Birchy for a bit too much chirping and this after having been overheard before push back saying he really was a good boy these days and his reputation for a collector of coloured cards was complete fiction. But that still makes green cards for 2 Friars in 2 weeks. We are off to Holcombe next Saturday so prospects of a hatrick loom!

Thank you to both umpires Spratty and Phil.
