Well that was a baptism of the league fire! After a handful of friendlies we were confronted with a Herne Bay side who wanted to win and had picked the team to do this. With one or two players truly wasting thier time at our level in our league we were torn apart for the first 15 minutes and watched in amazement as 4 goals were notched against us before we even woke up. Reverse flicks from the top of the D over the keeper are not usual!
Having identified who the key players were the Squires stood up to the challenge and the defence of David, James and Graeme worked tirelessly to blot out the attacks. James, John and Paul did much to block out the attacks from the mid-field and found themseleves playing further and further back on the pitch. The team spirit and pride for the club was shown best my Max and Richard who did not stop running.
A bit of a wake up call to the league competition – a home game next week with every chance for us to show what we can do.
