Scorers: A. Scott-Kilvert, O.Neal (x2)
MoM: James Rollins
The Millers took on Holcombe 3XI this week. Buoyed by an expectant home crowd at AW2, the home side started in confident mood. Pressing high, they restricted their visitors to the odd break-away opportunity and were camped in the Holcombe half for long periods. Desperate defending kept the score-line level until midway through the half when Ali Scott-Kilvert deftly deflected a short corner strike into the Holcombe net. Despite continuing pressure from the home side, the score remained narrowly in Canterburys favour at the interval.
The second half saw continuing pressure on Holcombe and Olly Neal was on hand to deflect a powerful cross high into the net to double the lead. Canterbury were then unlucky to have a James Rollins short corner strike disallowed but, not disheartened, managed to capitalise minutes later through Olly Neal again.
There were missed opportunities to extend the lead further but, nonetheless, The Millers will be satisfied with a confident and consistent performance throughout the game. They will be hoping to maintain momentum against Bromley & Beckenham this coming weekend. Skipper, Paul Sharratt, has purportedly put a Friday night alcohol ban in place, in lieu of a 10.45am start in south-east London…
