At 2:30 on AW2 Canterbury 4ths took on the mighty Sevenoaks 3rds in a game that would show what the new league and a step up in opposition was all about.Canterbury had a strong squad with talent everywhere ,young, old and Forber led as always by Andrew(The Panther)Hurst.
From the very start Canterbury looked solid moving the ball well and creating attacking chances down both flanks. From defence to the forward line in strong bold passes we were able to find Glen(me me me )Peebles and he in turn found the back of the net and Canterbury took an early lead. Two more goals followed in a period which Canterbury were dominant and looked likely to continue and take the three points, Sevenoaks however had different ideas. I don’t know what the problem was but Canterbury seemed to lose focus and allowed the opposition to take control of the game and had many visits to the circle one resulting in an open play goal and the other a penalty flick duly scored leaving the Panther licking his wounds. 3:2 at half time.
The second half started where the first left off and Canterbury found it hard to gain control back a buoyant Sevenoaks, but against the run of play Canterbury strung some passes together and ended up increasing the lead 4:2. Sevenoaks did not roll over and except defeat moving forward time and time again and reduced the lead to one and then squared it all up 4:4.
In the last 15 mins Canterbury had their most dominant period of the second half and with 2 minutes to go Glen(pass? Don’t be daft) Prebble received the ball on top of the D and with little room to manoeuvre skilfully rounded two players and reversed it into the backboard, brilliant!
